Art & Crafts Museum

SAMT is building a two-storied, 12500 sqft Art & Craft Museum at the Geetanjali Cultural Complex, Santiniketan with the objective to preserve, document and showcase a vast range of indigenous art and craft primarily from Bengal. It will help start a dialogue between the past and the present, the established and the avant-garde. The project envisages generating an environment that addresses the obstacles faced by rural artisans and at the same time accessible to scholars, artists and the common man. Plans are also afoot to use the museum as a training centre for craftsmen.

The Trust is confident that in the years to come the Centre would achieve prominence as a treasure trove of art and crafts through increasing public response – local, national and international. Thus, over time, the Art & Craft Museum is expected to become a cultural tourism destination and knowledge centre for the handicraft industry.
